C. MANUFACTURED BY T.R.T. MANUFACTURING COMPANY
(REISSUED WURLITZER TUNES, REUSING OLD WURLITZER ROLL NOS. 6668 TO 6676)

For a time we believed that the six-tune rolls listed below, made up from old Wurlitzer masters, originated with Doyle H. Lane,
who purchased the business assets and equipment of the T.R.T. Manufacturing Company in 1975 after the death of Ralph Tussing.
For several years, before moving first to North Carolina, then to Middletown Springs, Vt., Doyle Lane did business in Vancover as
the Player Piano Centre.

However, a typewritten roll catalog issued by Ralph Tussing and dated by its recipient "6/62" lists these nine rolls. It is a mystery why he reused the particular roll numbers he did, since those numbers had been used by Wurlitzer in the 1930s for entirely different rolls.

Additionally, Ralph Tussing made at least two custom composite rolls for customer Howard Walton. These also reused
Wurlitzer tunes, except that both included "The Petite Waltz" from Tussing's own roll 6701. One roll had a typical typewritten
Tussing label on its box, while the other had a handwritten one. These unnumbered rolls were titled "Walton Roller Rink Special"
and "Walton's Special Waltz Roll" and are now in the Robinson collection.

The Moonlight Waltz

(Frederic Knight L-for note identical with the Bacigalupi Special roll. Tune 6, called the "C. W. Parker March" on the original Parker label, has been misidentified as "Old Reliable" on some labels and lists. But it is not the "Old Reliable" which appears on roll 6532.

Research by Fred Dahlinger, Jr., published in Carousel Organ, journal of the Carousel Organ Association of America, issue #41 (Oct. 2009), shows that Luigi Bacigalupo -- not Bacigalupi; he had not yet anglicized his name to Louis Bacigalupi -- was in Leavenworth and working for C.W. Parker from 1915-16 to 1919. Contrary to the note on the Play-Rite recut, there is strong evidence that both this roll and the roll shown in this catalog as roll 6500 were arranged ca. 1919 by Luigi Bacigalupo and originally issued by Parker. The dates of the tunes on both rolls fit with 1919; neither roll is on Wurlitzer green paper, nor are they cut as cleanly as Wurlitzer rolls; both rolls lack perforations for the registers used only in Wurlitzer organs larger than the 165.

The contents of this roll, but with the order of tunes 4 and 5 reversed, were also issued by Play-Rite as roll numbered "BAB 100." At the bottom of the typewritten label is the note "arr. Peter Bacigalupi 1922."

1: PLAY-RITE COMPOSITES OF SIX-TUNE ROLLS ORIGINALLY ISSUED BY WURLITZER OR T.R.T.

Each of the dual-numbered rolls in this section contains the tunes found on two earlier six-tune rolls, so combined that, except as noted, the odd-numbered tunes on a given roll are the six tunes in order from the roll indicated by the first of the dual numbers, while the even-numbered tunes are the six from the other roll indicated. All of the tunes are shortened sufficiently to result in a 12-tune roll of standard ten-tune length, eliminating in the process the monotony that mars the six-tune originals.

NOTE: On some, perhaps all, copies, a perforating error in the chorus of "The Wheel Of Hurt" shifted the snare drum perforation
one hole to the right so that bass note C plays instead of the drum. This is likely present on originals as well as recuts.

3: PLAY-RITE PROGRAM ROLLS

These rolls, numbered 6800 to 6819, contain tunes selected from various Wurlitzer rolls (with the exception of two tunes from the "Bacigalupi Special" roll) and chosen by Play-Rite around a theme of some sort, apparent from the roll title. Occasionally a tune doesn't quite fit the theme, because of Play-Rite's misunderstanding of a title or a composer, etc., or in several cases because of errors made in compositing the roll. Compositing errors are noted where detected.

* Play-Rite made two mistakes in originally compositing this roll. "Jerry," a rag by Billy Baskette, the tune following "Beautiful Ohio" on roll 6500, was used as tune 2. And "Chong (He Come From Hong Kong)," a rag by Harold Taylor Weeks, the tune folowing "Till We Meet Again" on roll 6500, was mistakenly used as tune 5. In both cases, the label did not reflect the mistakes. Apparently, Play-Rite recognized their errors and re-issued a corrected version, a copy of which is today owned by Dana Johnson, Huntington Beach, Calif.
